Delivering SBEM-Compliant Solar PV for 4 New Commercial Units
Bennett Electrical was appointed to deliver the complete installation, testing and commissioning of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across four newly constructed commercial retail units at Sandy Hill Lane, Moulton.
The solar installations formed a key part of the development's sustainability strategy, helping the buildings achieve the renewable energy contribution required for SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model) compliance under Approved Document L2 2021.
Each commercial unit required an individually sized solar PV system based on the SBEM design calculations. The project demanded careful coordination with ongoing construction works while maintaining high installation standards and ensuring the systems were ready for final commissioning and certification.
Tailored Solar PV System
Bennett Electrical supplied and installed complete roof-mounted solar PV systems using the K2 MiniRail mounting system, selected for its durability, reliability and suitability for the roof construction. The installations included:
Installation of a K2 MiniRail roof mounting system
Astroenergy ASTRO N7 2.0 455W and LONGi Hi-MO X10 HVB 480W high-efficiency solar panels
SolaX string inverters
DC and AC cabling, plus DC and AC protection equipment
Testing, commissioning and certification
MCS documentation and DNO notifications where applicable

The project was delivered on programme, enabling the development to progress towards final EPC certification while satisfying the renewable energy requirements identified during the SBEM design stage. The completed installations now provide:
